PANG SUSI


This recipe was given to me by the late Sister Dorothy Santa 

Maria better known as Sister Dot. I remember her saying share

 your recipes,dont take them to the grave with you. Beng nos 

prendei faze pang susi. Eu ja prendei de Sister Dot kisorti faze 

pang susi. Eu lembra Sister sempri fala ki nos sabeh kuze,da 

kum tudu jenti sabei,nang gadra ate mureh.


1kg high protein flour. 1kg farinya


5 tablespoons sugar. 5 kuler grandi sukri


1pkt yeast. 1pkt  yis


1 cup of warm water. 1 kopi agu kenti freu.


1 tablespoon butter. 1 kuler grandi matega


2 small sweet potato.2 batata dosi keninu.


Method/ faze.


1.Mix all the ingredients together and set a side to let it raise.

Mistura tudu,bota na sol,desa subi sa pang.


Ingredients for the filling. Trempa para sa inti.


1 onion,cut into cubes. 1 sabola


Chicken breast,cut cubes. 1 peitu de galinya


1 teaspoon cinnamon.1 kuler keninu canela


A little bit of salt and pepper to taste. Umpoko sal kum pimenta.
5 potatoes.5 batata


Method/Faze


1.Fry the onions,chicken breast and potatoes.(potatoes can be boiled and mashed first).
1.Frize alu,peitu de galinya kum batata.(pesagu batata,)


2.Add in the seasonings,together with the cinnamon and pepper.
2. Bota sal,canela kum pimenta.


3. Leave a side till it's cool.
3. Lanta,bota umbanda,desa freu.


For the bread. Faze pang.


1. Knead the dough.Ramas farinya.


2.Make balls.Faze bole.


3. Flatten the dough and put in the filling. Abri farinya,bota sa inti.


4. Shape it and put it on a try.Faze pang susi,bota na bandeize.


5.Rub egg on the surface of the bread. Seka obu na riba di pang.


6. Bake for 30 minutes at 200F. Asak 30 minutu na fogo 200F.
When it's done,enjoy your Pang susi.

MALAYSIAN PORTUGUESE(CRISTAO)COCONUT CANDY.COKU DOSI


Ingredients:


3 cups grated coconut.Use the white only,make sure that it is not too old. Tres copi coku. Toma sa brangko,nang muitu belo.


3 cups sugar. Tres copi sukri.


3/4 cups evaporated milk. 3/4 copi leitte.



3 tablespoons cocoa powder.(I'm making chocolate flavored. If you wish to used coloring,you may do so.) Tres kuler cocoa.Kantu kere sibri otru klor,sigi kuntante. Eu gosta choclati,mas sabrozu. 



1 tablespoon butter. Ungwa kuler mantega. 

 METHOD:

Toast coconut till almost dry.Make sure that it is not too dry. Torak coku ate umpoku seku.Nang muitu seku. 


Add sugar and milk. Bota sukri cum leitte.


Add cocoa powder and mix well. Bota cocoa. Mistura tudu bong bong.


Cook on very slow fire.Kuze na fogu keninu.


Stir occationally. Cook until mixture is thick and forms a lump that leaves the sides of pan and begins to crystallise around the mouth of pan. Desa kuze ate retu-retu seku.


Grease the sides of a baking dish. Spread out with wooden spoon or table spoon.Let top have a rough surface. Leave to cool before cutting and serving. Seka mantega na rentu de tizala. Prega,desa friu,kotra,podi kumi.


Portuguese baked fish/steam fish. Peisi asadu

Ingredients needed for making portuguese baked fish/ steam fish.Trempa para faseh peisi asadu.


Dry chili.Cili seku. 


Large onions(you can use shallots if you want to)

Sabola grandi.(podi sibri sabola keninu kantu kere)


Turmeric.Safrang 


Lemon grass.Serei.


Turmeric leaves a few will do. Fola de safrang.umpoku cega.


Kaffir lime leave. Fola de limang perut.


A teaspoon of ready toasted prawn paste(can be purchased from me).Ungwa kulei keninu,belacan,ja lesti torak(podi kompra di eu)


Blend all ingredients together in the blender.Mui tudu trempa.


Preheat the oil,and fry all the ingredients till fragrant. Faseh kenti azati,frizi trempa ate cerozu.


Once the ingredients are fragrant,you may add in the leaves. If you desire,you may add the leaves when baking the fish.As for myself,I add in the leaves now cause I want my ingredients to smell better whenb baking or steaming.Trempa ja cerozu,podi bota dos-dos fola. Kantu nunggeri pota agora,podi bota kum peisi kiora kere asa.Eu bota agora,eu kere eu sa trempa mas cerozu.


Add salt. At this stage,you may add lime juice. If you prefer,you may add lime juice after baking while serving.Mete sal. Agora podi bota limang. Kantu nunggeri,podi bota kiora kere kumi.


Banana leave.Fola figu.



Fish.Peisi

Place the fish on the banana leave and foil. Put the paste on the fish,wrap it up and steam or bake for 20 minutes.Bota peisi na riba de fola figu,mete sa sambal,ficha,asa 20 minutu.

When fish is ready,serve hot with white rice. Kiora peisi ja kuzidu,kumi kum aros kenti.

Our Lady and the child Jesus.Nossa Nosiora de mai de Jesus.

According to my grandmother,long long ago,this statue used to come to life and would walk the shores of Praya Lane. One day, a clothe vander was passing by with his sales. He was not able to sell clothe that day.  He stopped at the church to rest. As he was resting,a white lady with a child came and bought some clothe from him. This made the man very happy. 

The next day,the church clergy came to prepare the church for mass. He was surprised to find clothe at the foot of the statue,and her feet covered with mud. This went on for a couple of days. 

One day the clothe vander passed by the church,the clergy asked the man why has he been putting all the clothe at the foot of the statue? The man explained that he did not do such a thing. He said that a white lady,carrying her child would always buy his clothe.She was seen walking along the seashore. The clergy then asked the man to describe the lady. The man described the lady,saying she was a white lady dressed in blue. Upon hearing the man's description,the clergy took the man to the statue. And the man acclaimed,Yes! She is the white lady that bought my clothe. Since then,a glass framed has been fixed and she no longer seen walking around.

All this happened long before the sea was reclaimed.

Sa amiang,irmang de greza ja beng kere fase limpu greza para misa. Eli ja bai na tras de greza,ja encontra teng panu na Nosasinora cum sa peiu inchidu cum marti. Isti ja fika tantu dia.

Ungwa dia,ja pasa na porta di greza,omi bendei panu. Irmang de,bai pidi cum eli ki foi ta larga panu na peu de Nosasinora? Akeli omi fala,nungka eli. Kada atardi ungwa muler brangku,ta lantar sa filo logo compra panu di eli. Eli logo anda-anda na praya. Akeli muler ta sibri ropa azul. irmang de greza manda akeli omi beng ola Nosasinora. Akeli omi ja subi saltu. Eli fala,akelilah muler ki kadabes beng compra eu sa panu. 

Di akeli dia,padri ja bota glass.Nosasinora ja nungka sai anda rudia mas.

Isti tudu ja susudei antu di gormintu picar mar.

Tumeric.Safrang


Young Mango.Manga badri


Dried chilies.Cili seku

Large onions or shallots.Sabola grandi/sabola keninu.

Fish of any kind.Peisi sigi bontadi di bos.


Method.

Blend all ingredients together in a blender. You can use a grinder if you wish.
Muei todo angkosa,sibri pilang ke sibri misen.Heat the oil in the frying pan and fry ingredients until fragrant

Faze kenti azeti. frizie tempre ate cherozu.

Add in the mangoes and water.(Don't make it too watery).Bota manga kum ago(nang desa muito aguada)

Let it simmer untill mangoes are soft. Desa kuze ate manga fika moli.

Add in salt to taste.
Bota sal.

Lastly put in the fish.Continue cooking until fish is cook.
Agora bot peisi. Desa kuze ate peisi kuzidu.

Burial tradition of the Portuguese Community in the Portuguese Settlement.


Death of child,a bachelor or an unmarried woman or a young girl.

Death is always the most avoided topic. And it it the most untalked. This time I'm sharing about another tradition of  the Community of the Portuguese Settlement. This tradition is still being practise today.Look at the pictures below.

Mureh! Motry...ki tantu jenti nungka gosta papia. Eu ozindia kere scribe kausu di nus sa tradisang, kantu teng keriansa ke,manseibu ke fila-fila ki ja mureh,nus teng nus sa tradisang ki nus ta sigi ate agora. Ola pintura na basu:


The Crown/Kronchi:-It signifies that a young girl/boy had passed away. Him/her being not married,will be given a  farewell dressed in a bridle dress /full suit as would a groom. Upon leaving the house,the kronchi will be removed and placed upon the coffin.  Kantu teng kronchi na diati di porta di jenti ki ja mureh nus logo sabei seitu teng fila-fila ke manseibu ja mureh.  Nus logo da sibri kum motry ropa di kazamintu.Kiora ta larga casa,kumpadri/kummadri logo tira kronchi di porta,bota na riba di kasang.  



Cake and wine will be served. The father or the mother will give a toast  for the deceased . Pai kum mai logo  lantar saudi. Bolo kum binyu para tudu jirisang ki teng na casa.

There will also be bride's maid and best men.


As the coffin is brought out of the house,flowers and fragrant water is sprinkled on the coffin as would to a groom/bride.
Kiora ta larga casa,rampei kum agu cherosu nos logo pincak.


Family members and close relatives leads the casket.
Familia cum jirisang logo unda mazianti na dianti di kasang.


Even the pews are decorated.
